The key to owning a Subaru Outback, is putting it to use towards it full potential. They are loved by people from, well, the outback, that need practicality and comfort of a wagon, yet have AWD safety and capability.

This particular has seen the kilometres it is meant to, but doesn't present as a neglected higher kilometre example. The interior is better than some sub-100 km vehicles I often come across and the exterior Duco, rims, and moulds are all in great shape and would have you thinking it is a lower odometer than what it displays.

TWO keys still sit in alongside a FULL service book with a mix of two franchise stamps that both have a Subaru Factory service department. A good set of a good branded tyre looks like they were not fitted all that long ago and it does drive as well as the last 60 kilometre I had in stock.

While a lot of market availability is a lower kilometre in older years, quite often they are the ones that have been used to pick up the kids and do the shopping, where as while this one is a bit up in the odometer, I think the car itself would appreciate this by having its leg stretched, as Subaru intended and by the maintenance it has endured over that travel.

As Australia’s unconstrained obsession with SUVs continues unabated, the Outback has a lot more competition to worry about these days – even within the Subaru range itself – but it remains the smarter choice for many buyers.

For 2018 the Outback gets a mid-life refresh with a new infotainment package, engine, suspension and transmission tweaks, along with advanced safety kit and some exterior changes including new grille, front bumper and headlights
