Description
The XJ6 Series III is the definitive classic Jaguar saloon, styled by Pininfarina and built from 1979 to 1987. This is a genuine 1985 Australian-market example, compliance-plated by Jaguar Rover Australia in November 1985, with a September 1985 build date confirmed on the factory plate. VIN SAJJAALR3CC437089 checks out and log books are present. Seating for five.
Power comes from the legendary 4.2-litre XK inline-six, the straight-six that made the XJ6 famous. Note: the original listing described this as a V6, which is incorrect. The XJ6 has never been offered with a V6 in any series. This is the correct 4.2-litre inline-six matched to a 4-speed automatic. The odometer reads 237,126 km. The engine bay is in reasonable condition with no obvious major leaks and a recently fitted Odyssey AGM battery.
The exterior is finished in classic maroon and presents well overall. There are condition issues that need to be on the radar before bidding. Active rust bubbling is visible at the driver's side mirror base. The A-pillar and windscreen junction shows paint cracking and early surface corrosion. The front chrome bumper has heavy pitting and rust staining throughout. There is a small stone chip on the bonnet with rust starting. Lower sills and wheel arches are well-known rust locations on Series III XJ6s and must be inspected in person before bidding.
Inside, all seats are covered in sheepskin so actual leather condition is unknown. Remove the covers on inspection before bidding. Centre console wood veneer is peeling. Dashboard veneer is patinated but largely intact. Headliner is fully intact and not sagging, which is genuinely good news for a car of this age. The driver's exterior door handle is sticky and will need latch servicing.
