1977 LANCIA BETA SPYDER 2000 - MANUAL

Presenting in Capannelle Red (193) with Chocolate interior trim

Targa style body by the renowned Italian design house of Zagato.

This vehicle has had only 3 owners and completed a genuine 10,630 miles since new. Mostly original paint.

We hold a Heritage Certificate from Lancia in Italy attesting to it's origins, also period correct books, an original sales brochure and some documentation relating to it's earlier life in South Australia.

Powered by a 2.0 Litre 4 cylinder engine, it produced when new 87.6Kw and 175Nm of power and torque, delivered to the front wheels via a 5 speed manual gearbox. Performance figures suggested by the factory when new where 0-100kph in 9.1 secs and a top speed near 185kph.

Three owners from new.

UK delivery to Dean Smoker, spent 2 months there in 1977, then was imported to Adelaide. Fitted with the upgraded later series cosmetically attractive grille in period.

Likely the most original RHD Beta Spider in the world

Centro Storico Certificate of Origin (UK delivery, RHD):

“Natural elastic imitation leather (Chocolate) interior all original and as new
“(193) Capannelle Red”.

Correct cream coloured rims according to the Australian Lancia Register.

From the Australian Lancia Register president: “Your Beta Spyder is a wonderful example of a first series car, so you have a very special one. They are in many respects underrated for what they are , of course you would know they were built by ZAGATO.”

Recent mechanical fettling and checking $2500.

Ex- Deane Smoker, the personal car of his wife and this car lived in the same Adelaide suburb as I did as a child.

Dean owned Champions Ltd who were the Adelaide Lancia, Ferrari and BMW concessionaire. Deane ordered the Spyder new and collected it in the UK in Feb 1977 where he and his wife toured the UK and then imported the car into Australia.

Deane had a large collection of classics which he bought upon securing the SA Ferrari concession in 1962.
The Beta joined this collection after a couple of years of light use by Mrs Smoker and was sold to the prior owner in approx. 1989, when I saw the car for sale in Franklin Motors Adelaide with only approximately 10,000 miles. Spectacular original condition.

This car has always had the later grille, as fitted in Mrs Smoker’s ownership. This car has also always had the cream alloy wheels from the first time I saw it- see images.

Original tools, correct “Z” Zagato boot mat, hood tonneau, even the Styrofoam cut outs securing the boot are present.

A true time warp car and without peer in Australia.

Quite an interesting offering and of course, eligible for Historic registration in most jurisdictions, this equates to minimal on road costs.

SA plates SMN-000 available if the car is sold in South Australia.

Current plates O15 are not available with this sale.
