1964 Holden EH Utility - Complete Nut and Bolt Restoration - Original Colour, Original Stamping - 149 I6, 3-on-the-Tree
1964 Holden EH single cab utility, rear-wheel drive, 149 cubic-inch inline six-cylinder (2.4 litre) petrol, 3-speed column-shift manual, indicating 74,806 miles, 3 seats. Acacia Ridge, QLD.
Description
The Holden EH is one of the most beloved shapes in Australian motoring. Produced from 1963 to 1965, it refined everything the EJ started and became the best-selling Holden of its era with over 250,000 units produced. The utility variant is particularly sought after by collectors, combining that gorgeous flowing bodywork with genuine workhorse practicality. This example has undergone a complete nut and bolt restoration to what can only be described as concours standard, finished in its original factory colour (paint code 568-5090 per the body plate) with original body stampings confirmed on the firewall (EH35327M) and the GMH body identification tag intact and untampered.
The quality of this restoration is immediately evident from every angle. The paint is exceptional, holding deep mirror-like reflections across every panel with no visible orange peel, runs, or colour mismatch from nose to tail. Every panel is dead straight with consistent shut lines throughout. All chrome has been replated to show-quality standard, from the front bumper and grille to the door handles, headlight bezels, fuel filler cap, and individual "HOLDEN" tailgate lettering. The engine bay is detailed to concours level with the 149 cubic-inch "red motor" inline six wearing correct Holden red enamel, factory-type oil bath air cleaner with period decal, and even a reproduction GMH battery sticker for authenticity. The firewall, inner guards, and all bay surfaces are finished in correct gloss black. Inside, the cabin has been fully retrimmed in dark green vinyl with correct factory pleat patterns on the bench seat and door cards. Dashboard controls, chrome pull-knobs with original-style label plates (Lighter, Wiper, Choke), and the factory instrument cluster are all restored. The ute tray is solid with its original five-rib pressed steel construction, and a correctly tailored black tonneau cover with chrome press-studs is fitted. Even the under-tray storage compartment behind the cab is clean and properly finished.
Restored EH Holdens command strong money in the current market. Utilities are rarer and more desirable than sedans, with restored examples currently listed between $37,000 and $85,000 depending on specification and quality. A restoration of this calibre, with confirmed original colour and stampings, factory-correct 149 engine, and presentation that would hold its own at any concours event, places it firmly at the premium end of the EH market. This is the kind of b
