Here is a remarkable offering, this vehicle was purchased by the German owner on the 1st of March 1963, a resident at the time of Berlin.

The family moved to South Australia some years ago and it appears the car came to join them sometime in the late 70's.

We hold remarkable documents all in German showing the early details of the car and ownership and also handbook and wallet.

The vehicle obviously arrived before the Australian Federal Government implemented an official Vehicle Import Approval scheme.

This is a matching numbers vehicle. Both engine and chassis numbers are documented and clearly visible on the car.

Powered by a 1.2 Litre 4 cylinder air cooled engine, it produced when new 40bhp (29.8Kw) and 60 ft/lb (81Nm) of power and torque, delivered to the rear wheels via a 4 speed manual gearbox. Performance figures at the time of release suggested 0-100kph in around 27 secs, depending on the wind direction and the number of passengers on board.

The vehicle appears to have all the original trim, seats, door cards and roof lining. It does however have period Holden seat belts that probably were required when it first arrived in South Australia. The interior also includes a wicker style front parcel shelf, which we understand was a genuine parts accessory for Beetles in the 60's.

This is a remarkable offering and will suit a Volkswagen enthusiast who is focused on originality. Being LHD as most Beetles were, it is quite rare in it's original form in this market.

Currently Historically registered in South Australia, this is not transferable, however it would be eligible for similar schemes in other jurisdictions. The current SA plates # 106493 are not available with the sale. However, the original German plate maybe available with the sale.
