1963 FERRARI 250 GTE 2+2 COUPE - MANUAL - RHD - 36,946 MILES SHOWING

The 250 GTE when launched in 1960, was Ferrari's first 4-seater on their new short wheelbase (SWB) chassis. Pininfarina built the bodies with the goal of providing a true 'GT driving' experience.

Piero Ferrari once stated "My father loved the 250 GTE.. this was his personal favourite car". In a 1962 road test, Road & Track wrote of the GTE " A not only grand, but a glorious touring car". Using one as his personal car, Enzo Ferrari certainly thought so.

This (RHD) car was delivered to official Swiss Ferrari dealer, J.H. Keller AG in Zurich, Switzerland. From Keller the new car was shipped to Australia, to a buyer who is still unknown at this time.

Last registered in 1974, the Victorian registration number was SM013.

The first known owner after 1974 was Silvio Massola, who had a service station in Hawthorn Road, East Brighton.

In 1987 Massola sold the car to John Rosar of Ferrari specialist Pursang Motors. According to Mr Rosar, neither he or Silvio Massola ever registered the car, driving it only occasionally on company trade plates.

Purchased by Vern Schuppan in 2015, the speedo showed a total of 34,700 miles.

Marco Arrighi, with Ferrari for 39 years and former director of Ferrari Classiche, recently stated " If we repaint a car as was done in 1960, we would be out of business in a very short time. The cars we restore have a finish quality that is definitely better than original.

This particular GTE # 3479, started life from Ferrari in the colour of Argento (Silver), however when Vern Schuppan gave the the car to Marque Restorations to rebuild, he chose a colour which looks in most lights like Black, but is actually a colour made up for Vern by the painter at Marque Restorations which could be best described as a Very Dark Brown (Marrone), truly a spectacular colour and complimented with new chocolate brown leather interior trim.

Vern has the original handbook and cover which unfortunately became slightly water damaged, hence the picture of re-production books. However, he has had them restored and will be available with the car, just not available to photograph at this time.

We hold a brochure from Marque Restorations itemising all the work that was done to the car during the restoration which also included a complete engine rebuild and mechanical overhaul.

Original engine specifications are as follows, a 3.0 Litre Colombo V12 engine, producing 177Kw and 262Nm of power and torque, delivered to the rear wheels via a 4 speed manual gearbox. Performance figures at the time of release suggested 0-100kph in 7.8 secs and a top speed near 230kph.

This car represents a unique opportunity to own a superb classic Ferrari which has been restored to a very high degree and a great history of ownership. Certainly an ideal car for classic events, show and shines or just a classic cruise to your favourite destination.

Eligible for Historic registration in most jurisdictions, this equates to minimal on road costs.

The current SA plates VS 33 are not available with this sale.
