Description
The first-generation Plymouth Valiant is one of the most distinctive compacts of the early 1960s, designed by Virgil Exner with that trademark forward-look styling. The alternator headlamps, the slash-cut tail fins, and that aggressive front-end profile gave the Valiant a character all its own, and this US-built example wears it well despite decades in storage. This is a genuine American-spec, left-hand drive 1961 Plymouth Valiant that has found its way to Australia, and it represents a rare opportunity to acquire one of these increasingly collectible early compacts.
Finished in a white and blue two-tone combination, the body is remarkably complete. Paint has faded and oxidized as you would expect from a long-term storage car, with surface rust visible in several areas (Patina), particularly around the lower body panels, wheel arches, and some trim edges. The chrome bumpers, grille, and window surrounds are all present and largely intact, though dulled with age. Importantly, the body panels appear straight with no signs of major collision damage. The interior features the original front bench seat in blue cloth showing age-related wear, and the dashboard retains its original push-button TorqueFlite automatic transmission selector, a brilliant piece of 1960s engineering. The distinctive slant six engine is in place under the bonnet, complete with its original air cleaner assembly. This car comes with what appears to be Washington State documentation and historical paperwork from the United States.
Early Valiants are gaining real traction in the collector market, particularly these first-generation US-spec cars that are becoming harder to find in any condition. For the Mopar enthusiast or someone after a genuinely different classic project, this is one worth a serious look. Located in Queensland.
