Description/extras: 1951 Rolls-Royce Silver Dawn – An Unrestored Time Capsule

Presented here is an extraordinary opportunity to acquire a completely original 1951 Rolls-Royce Silver Dawn – a rare survivor that has never been restored or refurbished yet remains 99.9% complete.

The exterior retains its original 75-year-old duco and chrome work, a testament to the craftsmanship of the era. Every detail remains as it left the factory, including original tools, spare wheel, and even the spare fuse wire still mounted in the fuse circuit compartment alongside the original 12V torch on the cabin bulkhead. The paint, brightwork, and trim wear the patina of time, offering a wonderfully authentic presentation.

Inside, the coachwork tells the same story – original leather upholstery, door cards, seats, and polished woodwork remain untouched since 1951. While delicate and showing deterioration consistent with age, these details preserve the car’s irreplaceable historical character.

Chassis number SFC 24 denotes the desirable 4-speed manual gearbox. Produced between 1949 and 1955 on the same chassis as the Bentley Mark VI, the Silver Dawn was superseded by the Silver Cloud. This model marked the beginning of Rolls-Royce’s “standard steel” coachwork era, built entirely in-house. Under the bonnet lies the larger 4.5-litre straight-six, used until the end of production, paired with drum brakes and original steel wheels with correct hubcaps. The iconic “Flying Silver Lady” mascot is both original and authentic.

All Silver Dawns were built for export markets only – of the 761 produced, just 116 came to Australia, with most others sent to the USA in automatic form. This particular example was first registered in 1952 and originally supplied to the Solicitor General of South Australia via the South Australian Rolls-Royce dealer, later repurchased by the dealer’s family for their collection, and transferred to another vehicle collector in 2018.

An exceptional piece of Rolls-Royce history, this Silver Dawn offers a rare chance to own a genuine, unrestored example with remarkable originality and travelled less than 15,000 miles in 75 years – a true collector’s treasure that is in excellent running and driving condition - having recently been subject to a comprehensive mechanical servicing.
