The NSW Toll Relief Scheme, introduced from 1 July 2019, is one of over 70 government initiatives to help ease the cost of living for the state’s residents.
From 1 July 2020, NSW private vehicle owners can claim one free 12-month registration if they have spent over $1,352 or more in tolls between 1 July 2019 and 30 June 2020. NSW private vehicle owners who have spent between $811 and $1351 in tolls in the same period will benefit from half-price registration.
To be eligible for claiming free or half-price registration, you must satisfy certain conditions –
You can only apply toll relief to one vehicle’s registration even if you have multiple licence plate numbers linked to one toll account. You also need to make sure your toll tag details are updated with the correct vehicle information.
It’s important to understand you cannot claim free or half-price registration if you decide to renew your registration for 3 or 6 months. Only vehicles with 12-month registration are eligible for Toll Relief.
You can have more than one toll account linked to a residential address for claiming free or half-price registration. However, you can only claim once per toll account in the financial year.
You are notified of your eligibility for free or half-price registration during the registration renewal process. If you think you may be eligible, you can use this Toll Relief reimbursement page. Even if you qualify for free registration, you must complete the vehicle registration process as normal – this includes lodging your 12-month CTP insurance and eSafety inspection (pink slip) if needed.
Tolls paid on these roads are eligible for toll relief –
Any tolls that apply to the upcoming NorthConnex and any other future toll roads will be included once they open.
If you have a special pass like the ERider or eMU,you cannot claim for toll relief. You also cannot claim for trips claimed back from an employer, interstate tolls expenses, toll account admin charges and Sydney Airport Corporation Limited (SACL) transactions.
Even if you are looking to buy another vehicle, you can easily link it up to your existing personal toll account to claim toll relief during your next registration. Find your next car from reputable dealers on Shop for Cars.
