Description
The GD-series Mazda 626 Eclipse is one of those cars that flew under the radar when new and is now quietly disappearing from Australian roads. This third-generation 626 ran from 1987 to 1992 and the Eclipse badge marked the top-spec trim in the local lineup, bringing steel wheels including covers, power windows and air conditioning as standard. That rear-wheel-drive layout is the real talking point here, a mid-size family sedan that sends power to the back axle, which gives this car a character that most of its front-drive contemporaries simply lacked. The F2 2.2-litre four is a tough, long-lived engine, and while 268,000 km is a respectable tally, these motors are well documented for going the distance when looked after.
In the photos this car presents as a solid survivor. The body is straight, the original steel wheels including covers are all there, and the Eclipse badges are intact front and rear.
