Description

The HQ Monaro GTS needs no introduction. It is, simply, one of the most important and desirable Australian performance cars ever built. Born at the height of Holden's muscle car era, the GTS combined aggressive styling, genuine V8 grunt, and a racing pedigree that cemented its place in Australian automotive history. This 1972 example is a factory-delivered GTS 308 V8 with verified provenance. The build plate confirms model code DOC370R (genuine GTS 308), the body plate reads 8Q37RDH820822Q (Monaro Coupe, RHD, 308 V8), and the engine number prefix "308H" confirms the original 308 block. This is not a clone or a tribute. It is the real thing.

The factory 308 has been professionally stroked to 355 cubic inches, giving this GTS serious performance. A dyno session at Streetbuilt Racing in Wangara, WA, recorded 315.6 horsepower and 607.7 N.m of torque at the rear wheels. The build features VN heads, a Crane 286 camshaft, Castle headers, twin 2.5-inch exhaust, carburettor induction, and an MSD Blaster SS ignition coil. Vendor advises a Muncie M22 Rock Crusher 4-speed manual gearbox and a 9-inch differential with 3.9 ratio, putting over 600 N.m of torque to the ground through a drivetrain built to handle it.

The car presents in its orange paintwork with good gloss and consistency across all panels. Panel gaps are straight and even. The chrome bumpers show some patina consistent with age but remain presentable. The factory Rally wheels with Holden centre caps and GTS badging are present and correct. Inside, the GTS bucket seats with houndstooth inserts remain intact with wear consistent with the vehicle's age. The factory GTS steering wheel, full instrumentation with tachometer, and original door cards with chrome trim are all in place. An aftermarket stereo has been fitted, and aftermarket parcel shelf speakers are installed in the rear. The underside of the bonnet is cleanly finished in body colour.
